Notting Hill Carnival 2008

This year's carnival is expected to take place on 24th and 25th of August 2008, in the usual place, and the regular suspects will participate.

Carnival 2007 & Earlier

In 2007 the Mayor's Caribbean Showcase at Hyde Park was finally killed off.  It has been said that Red Ken, in his infinite wisdom (of which only he is aware), attempted to split the carnival activities between Notting Hill and Hyde Park, ignoring years of history and not understanding the chemistry of Carnival.  For a more balanced observation, including the usual platitudes expected from a spokesman from Notting Hill Carnival Limited go to the Voice website here: The Voice.

Other perceived good news is that what some call "the character defects" of Lee Jaspar finally caught up with him, hence his departure in disgrace from Red Ken's brigade of quite odious sycophants. Even better, Red Ken lost the Mayoral election, and Boris Johnson is in the process of cleaning house. An investigation is under way into the spending on London's Caribbean Showcase event by police after allegations funds were misused..

Why does the word comeuppance float to the front of one's mind... Two out of three of those who were considered the most disliked characters associated with Carnival are now gone. The last despot who runs the LCADT can be expected to have his dodgy history catch up with him shortly, if word on the street and the anger of a growing number of people with his footprints on their backs is accurate...

I have deleted the web link to the Notting Hill Carnival Limited because is an embarrassment to the community - it hasn't been updated since 2005. Oh dear...

Each year since the spin generated so called "New Dawn" I have found it increasingly difficult to take photographs and provide the community with a web page of images for them to remember the enormous efforts they have made to put on one of the greatest shows on earth. In addition, other discouraging activities such as those initiated by our lunatic mayor and his minions combined with my efforts fighting to give the community what it wants and deserves in other locations, have come to naught other than frustration - so it has all become too much of an effort.

I am trying to pass the legacy on to a younger still idealistic group. Should any bands or individuals wish to help with a page this year by submitting their photographs, or if they wish to take over this page, please contact me at the email address on this page, replacing nhc with tim. Make sure you include the word carnival in your message otherwise it will not get past my spam filter.

Notwithstanding this, and not seeing any serious record of last years event, and providing I can find the time, I am aiming to return this year, and carry on in a somewhat abridged format - so some decent record of this event will be provided.

In the meantime, thank you to Pax Nindi, the members of the NHMBA and all those whose smiles kept me going the last few years. The affiliated sister page, music phatfotos will continue to evolve.
